It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas at Missouri Star Quilt Co

But seriously, it is. Is it too early?? It’s never too early to start planning Christmas! I’m one of those people who shops for Christmas gifts through the entire year. I’m also one of those people who sometimes spoils the occasional gift by accidentally announcing, “I bought you this really cute skirt today for Christmas!” Oops.

Anyway, we’ve got our Christmas fabrics up in the shop and up online!

The New Shop! The Beginning..

Word is out!  We’ve bought a new shop! (it was an antique shop)  It is on our little towns main street, and we couldn’t be more excited!!  (and overwhelmed!) The previous owners bought it 20 years ago, and haven’t made any updates since.  (I can’t say I blame them.  Can you imagine, having a full shop and trying to renovate!?  I can’t.  That is why we are doing it this way)  So, we have the HUGE task of ripping-tearing down-remodeling-re-painting-re-carpeting-re-designing EVERY inch of space here!  Want to know something crazy?  Our family LOVES this type of thing.  We have grown up (thanks, Mom and Dad) working hard, and being able to see beauty and character in the ugly-overwhelming-old buildings or houses.

Alan and I were talking the day we closed on this building, and it seems like the minute we get comfortable (getting the website working, shop is running smoothly etc.) we jump on to a bigGER project!  It’s almost like, we have to have something crazy going on at all times!  LOL, can any of you relate?  We really, are so excited.  This shop is going to be perfect for us.  We are going to have a designated classroom (open to everyone and anyone ALL the time, to work on your projects!!) Mom will have her own design studio, already outfitted with a giant window looking out into the shop!  I have already made jokes about putting Mom behind glass!  (this way we can filter her a bit more. hahahah!!)  I kid-I kid!!  We have so many plans and ideas.  It is going to fit us so much better and grow with us.

I can hardly wait to take this journey, and share it with you all!  Wanna see some pictures??  Here you go:  The BEFORE, in all her glory!

Standing to the right of the main entrance. Love all that paneling!!

Turned around, this is the entrance. We have great window display areas. Some major ripping out is in order here!

And here is a sneak peak into Mom’s studio!! The wood floors in here are amazing! I promise! There is so much potential!!

I hope you can catch a glimmer of the awesomeness that is coming!  I will have so much to share with you in the upcoming weeks, and will be thrilled to invite you to our big grand opening party!!  You know you won’t want to miss it!

Have a wonderful day!

Show and Tell…

I got this email recently from our friend Loretta.

Her words:

‘This Tonga Nature Wing and a Prayer quilt was a BOM from Missouri Star Quilt Company last year. I signed up late and they sent the first 5 blocks a month at a time, but then sent the rest of the kit all in one box !! Yikes !! Well, that scared me and I didn’t work on it for a while. Then I started again and did the center piece and stopped again. Whew. Gotta get this finished because I absolutely fell completely in love with it . . . sooooo, I picked it up again and went full force and ta da !! The quilt top is fully assembled. I am not saying it is wonderful, but to me it is magnificent !! Oh, the kit is all batiks and also included backing/binding fabric !!
The pattern is quite detailed and has a lot of piecing work involved, but the color choices for this kit are fantastic and really “makes” the whole thing in my eyes. I would not hesitate to do this quilt again because the instructions are very easy to follow and they offer time/fabric saving steps up front for a lot of the piecing.”

Check out her beautiful work….It’s just stunning Loretta.  What marvelous work you did.  You are proof that digging in and finishing up even the most intimidating projects are worth it! Thanks so much for sharing with us all!

A bit of a tension problem…

have you ever  been ‘there’?  Things can’t always go right, right?    Haha, well that is what happened to me when I tried to sew this weekend.

Lucky for me I have my Mom {Jenny, some of you  may be familiar} on speed dial, and she helped me ease the tension in no-time flat.  Hahaha.

Also, you may have noticed a bit of an issue we have had with our site…tension of a different sort. LOL. As we continue to grow we have little bumps along the way, and we learn from each

of them.  Thankfully, we have my genius{please, don’t tell him I said that} Brother who seems to fix those things,

even if it means re-building ‘something or other’{insert, big computer talk that I don’t understand}

Anyway, besides the obvious tension, I had a fabulous weekend spent with family and friends.  It was quite relaxing and I hope we can have more weekends like that.  {sooner, rather than later}

The weather surprised us and was beautiful!  We had a big egg hunt at Mom’s followed by the most delicious dinner.  The kids had a blast playing with their cousins while the grown-ups talked.  {i even got to hold the tiny baby for a while!}  A guitar came out and in impromptu sing along ensued.  What a blast.

Pretty much, exactly what I needed.

How about you?  How was your weekend.  I hope it was lovely.
