In case you haven’t figured it out yet…..

I am a beginner.  As in-I have NEVER quilted a thing in my life!   For real!  Mom taught all of us girls to sew growing up, and I hated it.  Could care less about it and literally hoped and prayed I wouldn’t EVER have to do it again!!!  Somehow, I got roped in to opening a quilt shop with Mom, (still confused a little on how it happened)   🙂    and have fallen in love with this world.  You know, the quilting world.  And believe me when I say it is a WORLD all it’s own!  I have met the nicest people while hanging out and I am happy to admit I have been bitten by the bug……(yes, it’s a bug.  OBVIOUSLY very contagious.  really)  I sewed my very first quilt top.  Just imagine me, a little embarrassed and a LOT excited!

I had heard about the disappearing nine patch on a ton of blogs…. Natalie did a baby quilt and showed me the basics.  Instantly I knew this was the quilt for me.  It looks like a TON of work, but it is actually very basic and easy.  So, I bought 3 charm packs and started to sew.

Charm packs make it easy because there is minimal cutting and instant results.  And I am all about instant results! 🙂  If you haven’t tried the disappearing nine patch DO IT!  It is so fun and amazing.  Really, I felt like I could really sew!  I am still not convinced I am a quilter…….but I am getting more used to the idea.     🙂    (I mean, I have always admired quilters and girls with sewing skills…I just never thought I would be among them!)  But,  I had a blast and I can’t wait to finish it!   I am actually thinking about more ideas….different quilts I want to do and try….

And in case you are interested, in the forums they are talking about doing a virtual sewing bee…..*squeal* this is it, Girls!  This is our year!!  All you ‘non-sewers  let us unite.  We can be quilters too!!  🙂   Go pick out a favorite charm pack and lets do this together!  :)Here is a picture of my finished top.  I used Sweet, by Urban Chik’s. (obsessed much?  Ok, so I like Urban Chik’s…. A Lot.)  Is it healthy?  Doubtful.  But I do love them.   I think I might get 3 more charm packs and double the size…..hmmm  I will let you know.  🙂

Fat Quarter Friday!!

Thoughts for the week …

Keep Going!!

You know the little engine that could was a pretty smart little guy.

Here’s my reasoning…
(At least, it’s what I keep telling myself while running circles around the block)

1. If you will keep going during the exercise when you think you can’t and you keep going till you can’t go another step or push another weight you will burn more and become stronger (this is the goal right 🙂 ) .

2. Keep going everyday!  It’s a whole heck of a lot easier to exercise when you did the same thing yesterday and the day before.  Rest is essential it is the time where your muscles rebuild themselves, just don’t wait to long… it makes starting again that much harder.

There is no falling off the wagon!

Now that I’ve told you why we keep going I’m not going to let you use that as an excuse.  It’s important to remember that even if you do something unproductive to the weight loss process there is no falling off the wagon… your horses are probably getting restless though waiting to get going again 🙂  Taking a break for a while won’t kill you.  You’ll probably still wake up the next morning and be better off for the exercise you’ve done.  But good enough or even really close is not our goal, so, back to thought number 1 and just keep going!  You’ve been doing great and the sooner you keep it going the easier it will continue to be!

Fat Quarter Friday

Hey everyone this is Hillary! And I’m resurrecting “Lose the Fat Quarter!” The Missouri Star Quilt Company girls were doing this in the shop once a week recently to help all us girls who like to sit and sew… get our tushies moving!! We got to work hard to lose weight and then one lucky girl got to take home a pile of fat quarters!!

Well, when mom broke her leg there were a few things that kinda stopped in their tracks and that was one of them 🙁 it just became to much.
I don’t know about you, but, I hate to lose momentum and I love having a group to talk to and keep me motivated while I’m trying to lose weight. That means…. (drum roll please) I’m starting an online group!! Woohoo! 😀 It’s gonna be fun! There won’t be a pile of fat quarters to take home but maybe we can work on dropping a few more of our own “fat quarters” until the shop is ready to restart the class & probably after that.
I know we all have our own personal goals

but…. for me…. my starting weight is ____

Heck no! but I’ll probably tell you each week as I weigh in if I’ve lost weight and you can post about how you’re doing in the comments or in the Lose The Fat Quarter forum group under the General Discussion section (the forum is under the Community tab up top:) ). I will say that my ultimate goal is probably where some people are just starting. But hey I’m gonna look GOOD when I get there 🙂

MOTIVATION

15 minutes of Cardio, 15 minutes of weights, an hour of talking myself into it.

My thoughts for this week are about motivation.

One of the big thing’s in exercise is motivation. In order to keep going we have to have some form of motivation.
It can be something physical, like a dress, swimsuit, or a picture of yourself from where you once were and want to be again or…. maybe you’ve never been there and it’s your head stuck on someone else’s body :D.

Motivation could be more emotional as well, maybe you want to lose weight so it’s not so hard to get around, maybe it’s for your kids or spouse. Whatever it is exercise is so much easier when we have that motivation fresh in our minds.

I’ve recently challenged myself to run a 5k this spring

Aaaah!! What am I thinking?? I know!
So, I’ve been pulling out the motivational swimsuit, my spouse is helping too 😆 , so I can be ready for this and get moving to lose some serious weight!

So far I’ve been running 3 days this week and biking on Tues… I skipped Thurs…. shh! But frankly, I’d forgotten how stinking hard it is to haul myself at a run around the block even 2-3 times much less a mile or 3. Right now it’s more of a jog…. or a walk and jog combo, with lots of walking, but still!It’s hard OK!

I know you all understand so my thought’s for today on our weight loss journey is MOTIVATION!
Find some, pull it out, right a letter to yourself or you kids.  Hide it if you want to, or stick it in your purse it’s really for you anyway, but,
get out your motivation and let’s get moving!
