Introducing ModBLOCK (Vol. 2)

If you’re a Missouri Star fan, then you’ve probably heard of our wonderful bi-monthly magazine, called BLOCK. It features 10 patterns with beautiful photos, tons of inspiration and no ads! This isn’t your typical magazine that you recycle once the next issue comes out. It’s more of an idea/pattern book for the price of a magazine! That sounds like a winning combination, right? For the second time, we have released a special edition of BLOCK Magazine called ModBLOCK. It’s a little bit different, but mostly the same. Here’s the scoop on our brand new Volume 2!

The theme for this issue is Form and Function. There is a wonderful article written by our very own Nichole Spravzoff, which discusses the important place quilting has had in our hearts throughout history. She says, “Quilts are personal, functional, and most of all beautiful.” We completely agree!

Just like BLOCK, ModBLOCK offers 10 quilt patterns with detailed instructions, supply lists, and step by step photos to help with your piecing.

In this issue of ModBLOCK, we have wonderful Contributors who create the quilts and articles in the magazine. These are people who are known and respected in the quilting industry, who we have just loved working with as we collaborated to create this special issue.

Motivational Monday Part 3

Jenny never makes mistakes. She is perfect in every way and never has a thread out of place in any of her quilts! She has definitely never accidentally turned part of a quilt block the wrong way.

Okay, none of that is true!

Jenny loves to say, “Finished is better than perfect!” and I have to say that I whole-heartedly agree! There is this wonderful feeling that comes over you when you finish a quilt, that you almost don’t even mind the imperfections and may even forget where they are eventually! Last Monday, we talked about how we need to be better about focusing on our own progress rather than demanding perfection from ourselves from the beginning. This phrase is definitely a part of that.

Celebrate the major accomplishment of finishing a quilt and don’t sweat the small stuff!

Motivational Monday Free Printable: Part 2

As a quilter, I often find myself looking to other quilts for inspiration. There are so many amazing quilts being made every single day (check out our #msqcshowandtell on Instagram for some excellent examples), so between that and weekly MSQC Tutorials, it’s pretty easy to come up with a long quilting bucket list, meticulously prioritized by how excited I am to try out a pattern.

The part that kind of sneaks up on you is that it’s also easy to go to those same sources of inspiration and then compare your quilt to theirs. Maybe your points aren’t as pointy or your squares don’t line up as perfectly as theirs. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay! Don’t compare your work to that of a professional quilter. You are on your own quilting journey! Your latest quilt is probably a little bit better than the last one or maybe you’re more confident to try slightly more difficult patterns. Wherever you are on your quilting journey today, decide to BE HAPPY with the progress you’ve made since your first quilt!
