Fat Quarter Friday!!!!

Losing the fat quarter

Hey Ladies!! Dang it’s cold this week!
A good week to be sitting around quilting isn’t it šŸ™‚

I don’t know about you but I move a lot slower in the cold. šŸ˜†
This is not such a bad thing though.Ā  I know in, say, step aerobics we’re supposed to be up and going, kick boxing, pick up the pace, but every type of exercise has it’s place for the slow and careful exercise.Ā  Particularly when toning muscles using weight lifting.Ā  OK I can see every brain just shut down.Ā  Come on!Ā  This works for actual weights, cans of soup, or even body weight!Ā  Body weight is how it’s used in most exercise programs. Think about leg lifts it’s not how many you can do in a minute or even sit-ups, if you are doing a ton it will start to burn but try doing a few slowly, burns faster and more doesn’t it.
I try to remind my self of this occasionally, I’ll remind myself to go slowly and keep my muscles tight… in yoga they call it keeping your muscles active.
By the way, I tried a yoga class this week… holy cow… fell over more than once and felt like I was killing myself about 5 minutes in.Ā  I wasn’t even coordinated enough to feel like I’d done very much exercise, and that has nothing to do with the fact that I quit after about 10 minutes.Ā  Oh well, I’ll run today I can at least do that, mostly šŸ™‚Ā  So any way, thoughts for today and our cold weather…
slow repetitions
To help in doing your slow repetitions get yourself a catch phrase, such as I’m building my body for life or this weight is going away, that you can say during half a repetition.Ā  So you say this weight is going away as your leg goes up and hold then this weight is going away as it comes down.Ā  And remember the idea is slowly.Ā  None of this shortening the phrase stuff, like changing it to “the weight’s gone, the weight’s gone, weight’s gone, gone, gone….”etc. You know better than that.Ā  Your mother taught you better, shame on you for thinking it. šŸ™‚
So anyway,Ā  even though we’re moving slower let’s not let the cold get the better of us!

Good luck and keep moving!
Hey anybody losing weight yet we’re 2 weeks in, what say ye?

Hey I just wanted to add… that anyone who wants to participate inĀ  our forum chat to join us!Ā Ā  We all want to know how your doing šŸ™‚Ā  And it’s so helpful to have that support!

Fat Quarter Friday!!

Thoughts for the week …

Keep Going!!

You know the little engine that could was a pretty smart little guy.

Here’s my reasoning…
(At least, it’s what I keep telling myself while running circles around the block)

1. If you will keep going during the exercise when you think you can’t and you keep going till you can’t go another step or push another weight you will burn more and become stronger (this is the goal right šŸ™‚ ) .

2. Keep going everyday!Ā  It’s a whole heck of a lot easier to exercise when you did the same thing yesterday and the day before.Ā  Rest is essential it is the time where your muscles rebuild themselves, just don’t wait to long… it makes starting again that much harder.

There is no falling off the wagon!

Now that I’ve told you why we keep going I’m not going to let you use that as an excuse.Ā  It’s important to remember that even if you do something unproductive to the weight loss process there is no falling off the wagon… your horses are probably getting restless though waiting to get going again šŸ™‚Ā  Taking a break for a while won’t kill you.Ā  You’ll probably still wake up the next morning and be better off for the exercise you’ve done.Ā  But good enough or even really close is not our goal, so, back to thought number 1 and just keep going!Ā  You’ve been doing great and the sooner you keep it going the easier it will continue to be!

Have a great week and keep moving!!

Fat Quarter Friday

Hey everyone this is Hillary! And Iā€™m resurrecting ā€œLose the Fat Quarter!ā€ The Missouri Star Quilt Company girls were doing this in the shop once a week recently to help all us girls who like to sit and sew… get our tushies moving!! We got to work hard to lose weight and then one lucky girl got to take home a pile of fat quarters!!

Fabric Fat Quarter Bundle

Well, when mom broke her leg there were a few things that kinda stopped in their tracks and that was one of them šŸ™ it just became to much.
I don’t know about you, but, I hate to lose momentum and I love having a group to talk to and keep me motivated while Iā€™m trying to lose weight. That means…. (drum roll please) Iā€™m starting an online group!! Woohoo! šŸ˜€ Itā€™s gonna be fun! There wonā€™t be a pile of fat quarters to take home but maybe we can work on dropping a few more of our own ā€œfat quartersā€ until the shop is ready to restart the class & probably after that.
I know we all have our own personal goals

but…. for me…. my starting weight is ____
HA!

You thought I was going to tell didnā€™t you šŸ™‚

Heck no! but Iā€™ll probably tell you each week as I weigh in if Iā€™ve lost weight and you can post about how you’re doing in the comments or in the Lose The Fat Quarter forum group under the General Discussion section (the forum is under the Community tab up top:) ). I will say that my ultimate goal is probably where some people are just starting. But hey Iā€™m gonna look GOOD when I get there šŸ™‚

MOTIVATION

15 minutes of Cardio, 15 minutes of weights, an hour of talking myself into it.

My thoughts for this week are about motivation.

One of the big thingā€™s in exercise is motivation. In order to keep going we have to have some form of motivation.
It can be something physical, like a dress, swimsuit, or a picture of yourself from where you once were and want to be again or…. maybe youā€™ve never been there and itā€™s your head stuck on someone elseā€™s body :D.

Motivation could be more emotional as well, maybe you want to lose weight so itā€™s not so hard to get around, maybe itā€™s for your kids or spouse. Whatever it is exercise is so much easier when we have that motivation fresh in our minds.

Iā€™ve recently challenged myself to run a 5k this spring

Aaaah!! What am I thinking?? I know!
So, Iā€™ve been pulling out the motivational swimsuit, my spouse is helping too šŸ˜† , so I can be ready for this and get moving to lose some serious weight!

So far Iā€™ve been running 3 days this week and biking on Tues… I skipped Thurs…. shh! But frankly, Iā€™d forgotten how stinking hard it is to haul myself at a run around the block even 2-3 times much less a mile or 3. Right now itā€™s more of a jog…. or a walk and jog combo, with lots of walking, but still!Itā€™s hard OK!

I know you all understand so my thoughtā€™s for today on our weight loss journey is MOTIVATION!
Find some, pull it out, right a letter to yourself or you kids.Ā  Hide it if you want to, or stick it in your purse itā€™s really for you anyway, but,
get out your motivation and letā€™s get moving!
