Garden of Quilts

We’re not sure if there is a prettier combination than quilts and flowers. Put the two together, and it’s just like paradise! We had the opportunity to enjoy both in abundance at the first-ever, Garden of Quilts at Ashton Gardens in Thanksgiving Point, Utah this Sept. 12-14. (And yes, we’re still pinching ourselves that such a magical event really did happen!)

Jenny, Misty, Natalie and the Missouri Star On the Road crew were all on hand to take part in the festivities!

Jenny taught two fabulous quilt classes (Half Square Triangles and Totally Tulips), and presented one of her amazing trunk shows in front of 700 attendees in a stunning outdoor amphitheater.

Bottom: Jenny taught a Totally Tulips class, too! You can find the kit to make the Totally Tulips quilt on the left HERE!
It was a picture-perfect night to be hosting an outdoor trunk show!

The most awe-inspiring part of this event was the more than 700 quilts on display throughout Ashton Gardens. Dozens of our Missouri Star quilts were in the Garden, including all of these on display in the stately Italian Garden.

We’re pretty sure this is what quilter’s paradise looks like!

The Garden of Quilts was jointly hosted by Riley Blake Designs as part of their 10th anniversary celebration, and if you are looking for a special way to celebrate their milestone birthday, be sure to join founder, Cindy Cloward for her special retreat this Nov 12-15 at Missouri Star. She’ll be teaching the commemorative Celebrate Sewing quilt, and all the supplies needed to make this beauty are included in the cost of the retreat

On our last day in the Garden of Quilts, Jenny and Misty took us on a tour of our Missouri Star quilts, plus a little sneak peek of the Secret Garden. Enjoy the tour below!

The Winners of our Small Town Quilt Show

Yes, Yes…we had two winners!  We had such a fun time hosting the JC Penney Days Quilt Show.  (yes, we live in Mr. JC Penney’s hometown)  Pretty exciting!  🙂  The turn out was great, and it was a wonderful variety of new quilts and old quilts.

Just look at that cute squirrel. And the colors are so gorgeous!

This is our 1st prize winner, Velva from Hamilton.  She does amazing appliqué work and we were wowed by the quilts she brought.  This was her first time ever entering a quilt.  She actually took first and second place.

I am just in love with this log cabin…so fresh, SEW fun.

And here is Miss Maxine, from Polo with her swirly log cabin finished! She got 3rd place!   (I showed this one a few weeks back, from our Friday night sew-show and tell)  I love how she finished it with those borders and the scallop edge!  Cute!  (she used the RJR twice the charm)

Thanks to all the ladies that participated.  We sure enjoy seeing all that you create….each one of the quilts (and projects) you make are wonderful!

A quilt for the School….

My first experience at Market was INSANE…..but one thing I remember (really, a lot of it was a blur!!)  was an adorable quilt made by Barbara.  You know, the ‘Quilt Soup’ Lady!  She was so kind to us and we chatted away with her, and I just had to have the pattern for the quilt called “Bad Dad.”  She told us the story behind it and i was just smitten by it.  I have children in Elementary School, and our community had just broken ground on our new Elementary building.  The timing couldn’t have been better.

So away we went….got home and got to work on this little number we are donating to our Brand New Elementary School.  We couldn’t be prouder of our community.  We appreciate all of our teachers and students for all the hard work they do.  Rumor has it they are planning on hanging it in the office!  (I can’t wait to see it up.)  Honestly, this quilt was hard for me to give up…..I love the ‘Recess’ line (Sandy Klop is a genius) and I just thought it was so darling…..I so hope they enjoy it (like I would if it was gracing the walls of my house!) hehehe, Okay…I’ll quit whining~

Oh and one more thing….we are SO busy this week…..like, seriously heads might explode and everything.  But, I am going to give you updates on all of our Quilt show preparations, and booth set up.  Yeah, I am gonna be that annoying one with the camera.  (hey, whatever helps get me out of all that hard labor.)  🙂
