The Valentines winner:

Oh man, there were so many fun and entertaining Valentines stories!!  You all certainly kept me entertained this week! I was laughing out loud at some and sad at others, while a few were just heart-melting!  Ahh, love. Isn’t it just grand?

On to the Winners!!!  For the layer cake:

  • Valentine is a good day when I make giant heart shaped sugar cookies for my students to decorate at school. They love it and it’s fun to watch them.
    And for the Jelly Roll:
    • Rebecca M Kovach
I totally forgot! When I was quite young there was this little red-haired and freckled boy named Neil Burger who had a major crush on me. He came to our door and delivered to me this amazing pink, ruffled heart-shaped box of candy. I was so horrified and embarassed by the whole thing I took the box and shut the door in his face. My mother was, of course, furious at my behavior! I still have that box in my memorabilia. I’m sixty so I imagine that box is around 50 years old. If he only knew I’d kept it all these years, maybe it would make up for my incredible rudeness. I am assuming my mom made me call and apoligize. I really can’t remember how it played out and Mom is no longer with me to fill me in on the details. I wonder what Neil Burger is doing these days. Hopefully he has a sweetheart who treats him well and loves him lots.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sarah and family!!!
I seriously had a blast reading all your comments!!  Thanks so much for participating!!  Please stay tuned, we will have many more giveaways coming up! And if you simply can’t wait on fate (to win) you can find our Valentines fabric here.
      Talk to you soon.

Hideaway…our theme for last week!

Wow!  We had quite the snow storm this last week!  I know, I know you’ve all heard about it already, but really.  I have never seen that much snow from one storm all at once before!  I also have to say that I LOVED that it snowed ALL day on Tuesday!  I hate (ok, not really hate) waking up to giant amounts of snow.   I just really like being able to see it fall, and enjoy it’s beauty.

The kids have basically had another vacation.  I’m not sure if we’ve had a full week of school since Christmas!  (obviously my brain is mush, and my weeks are running together, lol)  So, this week was full of sledding, movie watching and playing with toys.    My kids have another day off Friday (teacher work day) this week, and I think they are getting a bit spoiled by it all.

I got to play with some fabric, and that has been fun.  I used a Hideaway Layer cake, and am almost done with the top.  I really just have to pick a border and then have it quilted!!  I’ll post about the whole thing later this week, with some directions!  I know you all  love a good tutorial!  🙂

Do you see that cute yellow flower?!!?  That is a new camera bag I got!!  Oh my cuteness!  I love it!  The best part of it is that it fits BOTH my cameras!  That bag is a monster!  (a really, cute and happy monster!)

Anyway, I am crossing my fingers for a more productive week…full of meetings and deadlines (and meeting the deadlines)  hahahah.

I did get to order a whole bunch of new fabric on Friday night! Oh my goodness!  You are gonna love the new Christmas stuff Moda has coming out!  I can hardly wait to show you!

Have a wonderful-happy Monday!

Sarah

P.S.  Thanks so much for all the LOVE on our Moda Bakeshop debut!  It really was a pleasure to be a part of.

Make Life Happy!

We just got the new line, Make Life (by Sweetwater, for Moda) in our shop and let me say, it is happy and bright.  I love it more than I thought I would!  We couldn’t wait to cut into it and make something.

Natalie put together a quilt using this line and we wanted to give you the directions so that you can make one for yourself!  This is a great pattern and has very LITTLE waste!  You will almost use every piece of both the jelly roll and layer cake.

You will need:

1-layer cake

1-jelly roll

Directions:  First cut your layer cake squares in half (5X10″ pieces)

then cut your jelly roll strips into 10″ strips.  (each strip will give you 4- 10″pieces)  2 1/2 X 10″ strips

Once you have all the cutting done, you take two Jelly roll strips (matching pieces) and sew on either side of the 5X10″ strips.  (each block should have one layer cake piece in the middle, with a jelly roll strip on each side)

Continue mixing and matching jelly roll pieces with the layer cake pieces, till all your strips are sewn together.

Then take your block and square them up to nine inches.

All you have left to do is lay it out and sew the blocks together!  Alternate the blocks to create the pattern.

Here is a picture of ours before it is quilted.  We are still deciding on borders and will update you when we are all finished!!

Finished top (without borders) is 68 X 86

Have fun putting this easy peasy quilt top together!  When we are finished with this we will have a pattern for you to down load.  Have a great day!

Objects of OUR Desire!

Quilting Tutorial
Natalie LOVES coming up with new things to try and do with all of our Moda precuts.  This project went together in a snap.  It was fun and fast.  A must for us here at MSQC.  🙂

All you need is  a Jelly Roll and a layer cake….make a few slices and stitches and wha-la.  DONE.

Just how we like it.

**Hi, its me, I just noticed that I made a BIG measurement mistake! oops! 🙂 The correct measurements for this jelly roll/ layer cake quilt are…

1) cut your layer cake into two pieces…one 6″ x 10″ and one 4″ x 10 “

2)cut your jelly roll into strips that measure 2.5″ x 10″ and 2.5″ x 12” (I said 13 in the video!) I guess I was a bit nervous! Sorry!

Don’t forget to send us a pic (you could post these in the forums or send us an email!) if you try this quilt out!

Thanks, Natalie

Remember to comment away for our giveaway.  We will be keeping track.  (and don’t forget to tell your friends about it either!)  🙂

*quilt was made using one Objects of Desire (by Sandy Gervais) jelly roll and one layer cake.  (by Moda, of course)
