So yes, its been snowing, and its really cold! I don’t know about all of you but about this time of year I start to miss the sunshine 🙂 So, I thought, what could I do to brighten up my day? Well sewing something usually helps and sewing something bright is even better!
I took one charm pack and cut each 5″ square into a 2.5″ rectangle.
Then I took my dresden ruler and cut twenty of them into dresden plate triangles.
I assembled the Dresden plate and machine appliqued it onto a black background (15.5″ square). I also machine appliqued the black center circle.
Then I took the remaining rectangles from the charm pack and made a piano key border for the dresden. It measures approx. 25 inches square.
I still need to decide how to quilt it. and what color thread to use! (the really tough choices:) I absolutely love this little mini quilt! It is so bright and cheerful! and so easy peasy… This is a perfect project for a dreary winter afternoon! Enjoy!
Coins, coins, coins……I bet you’ve seen them all over the ‘world wide web’ this summer, and you are dying to make one!! They are easy peasy, and you will love the end result!
Using a jelly roll makes it so much easier, because your 2-1/2 inches are already cut, all you have to cut is your desired length. We chose 5 inches for our example, here. Then you use a coordinating fabric for your sashing and BAM, your done!
If you have made one before, or if you make one after watching this video, upload a photo of your finished project to the forums!! We’d LOVE to see it!
Thanks so much for joining us this week, for Jelly Roll Week! We have lots of fun in store. Videos everyday, a giveaway or two and lots of fun ideas to get you thinking for the holidays! 🙂 Stay tuned…..this is gonna be fun!
*fabric used was one Zippity Doo Dah Jelly roll (by Sandy Gervais) and Bella Solid (Navy) by Moda
This line of fabric is absolutely beautiful! I knew when I first saw it that I HAD to make something out of it! I also wanted to make a coins quilt, they are just so cool! 🙂
So I decided to put the two ideas together and this little beauty was born! I AM IN LOVE!!! Here she is…my first Coins quilt. I followed AmandaJeans tutorial on the Moda BakeShop pretty closely…except, I used three charm packs because I wanted mine to be a little bigger. Its roughly twin size. So, grab your charm packs and get started. This one really is a breeze!
I recently joined a Flickr group called “nothin’ but scraps“. The idea is to create quilts using only your scraps! Some of the quilts are just stunning like this Spiderweb quilt and this Coins quilt. I lovelovelove them!!! Here is my work in progress….
I am currently in LOVE with half square triangles…and Pinwheels! SO cute!! So I just gathered bits of fabric from things we have made and started sewing…I am using 5″ squares to make the half square triangles. Aren’t they just so cute?!
I am going to sash them all in white!
I may or may not use them all…but, it sure will be cute when it is finished!
Have a lovely day,
