Victoria Findlay Wolfe and Sizzix Retreat Recap – 2015

Group

We just loved having Victoria Findlay Wolfe here along with Linda Nitzen from Sizzix for our retreat! It was such a blast and such a wonderful learning experience for all. Jenny even sat down with the retreaters and followed along with Victoria’s class she was so enthralled in it!

Laid out on the floor is Victoria’s Large Melon Double Wedding Ring Quilt, isn’t it stunning? The colors and fabrics are marvelous together giving this scrappy quilt so much character.

Linda, the Sizzix Quilting Manager, presented a quilt challenge to the MSQC employees to create a quilt/ quilted item 50×50 or smaller for a chance to win a Big Shot Pro and several dies! Here is our first place winning team!

Sizzix Challenge Winners

It’s a sore subject with the rest of the staff, (we are a very competitive group) but these lucky winners sure were happy and are enjoying their prize and their win was well deserving! They created an Interactive Children’s Playmat! All of the pieces were cut from Sizzix Dies and can be removed and rearranged on the mat for a super fun time! How fun and clever is that? 🙂

We were so glad to have these amazing ladies here with us in Hamilton and hope they get to come again soon! Have you ever been to a quilting retreat? Find out about all of our upcoming retreats and events HERE.

MSQC Fall Forum Retreat Recap // 2015

When the Sewing Center first opened for retreats, we looked to our loyal Forum Members to give it a test spin and that’s how the Fall Forum Retreat began! This year, this fun group got to be here for our Birthday Bash and definitely added to the party!

A couple of retreaters even came from as far as Australia!

During the retreat, they all worked together to create this beautiful quilt, later named ‘Passing Pinwheels’. The tag reads: “Passing Pinwheels. A quilt pieced by many hands to provide warmth and love during your troubled time. Missouri Star Quilt Co. Forum Retreat – 2015” From @LOVEMYMACHINES on Quiltsby.me: “This quilt is a custom product of the ladies and gentleman that attended the 2015 MSQC Fall Forum Retreat. Everyone participated in pinwheel construction and layout of the quilt. The result is a beautiful compilation of multi-direction spinning pinwheels.” Click on the image below to read about how the name of the quilt was chosen!

Wild Wild West Quilting Retreat

WANTED: Fun gals who love to quilt! If you read closely, these lovely ladies’ shirts read “Quilting Gals Gone Wild.” Some people went a different direction with our Wild Wild West theme 😉

quilting gals gone wild

We recently held a Wild Wild West Quilting Retreat here at Missouri Star and it was a blast! The gals loved getting to meet and sew with Jenny! While they were here they had plenty of free time to sew and shop as well as scheduled classes taught by Jenny and Cindy!

Cindy loved dressing up and getting into character for this one! Check out them cowboy boots, y’all!

These quilters are so clever! They each received a bandana and decided to lay them out on the table to have everyone, including Jenny, sign them! Isn’t that so fun??

Jenny Doan and Crafty Gemini Retreats // 2015

jenny and vanessa web

This past couple of weeks, we had a special visitor in Hamilton at MSQC! Vanessa Vargas Wilson, the Crafty Gemini, was here for two back to back Jenny Doan/Crafty Gemini quilting retreats and these gals seriously had a blast!

jenny disappearing class

There’s always plenty of time for sewing and shopping when you’re here for a retreat, but this one was packed full of some fantastic classes as well! Jenny taught the retreaters how to make various disappearing blocks and then showed them how to turn them into a tablerunner. 🙂

These gals are sisters who all love to sew and quilt! They came with their own matching t-shirts and even their own catch phrases! It was so fun to meet them!

Vanessa taught a class on how to make this adorabe ‘Any Which Way’ quilt using paper piecing!

Jenny even tried this one out because she wanted to improve her paper piecing skills! Those arrows are looking good, Jenny! 🙂

Vanessa did something that was so fun! She brought a Polaroid camera and took a special photo with each of the retreaters and signed it for them! What a fun little souvenir to take home! 🙂

We hope you had a wonderful time, retreaters!

Shop Owners Retreat

Missouri Star recently held a Shop Owners Retreat to allow owners to visit Hamilton and see the changes it has undergone in the past few years! MSQC has been expanding and opening more store fronts and we wanted to share our story and these exciting times with others just like us!

While here, shop owners had the chance to look around town, network with one another, participate in a Barn Quilt Blocks painting class, attend a Jenny Trunk Show as well as have a round table BYB (Build Your Business) discussion with Al Doan!

Of course, Jenny painted the Missouri Star Quilt Block! Does’t it look great on the side of her house? 🙂

We loved this Bear Paw barn quilt block that Jan Heddinger from Des Moines made!

Jenny did one of her amazing trunk shows for the retreaters and focused on ways these shop owners can teach some great tricks and tips to their own local shop customers. It was such a fun night!

The retreat team set up these tables of MSQC products to show the shop owners some fun ways to display quilting products for sale! Did you know that some local quilt shops carry MSQC products? Click HERE to find a wholesaler near you!
