I just LOVE the pre-cut fabric. It is so nice to have a slice of each piece of fabric from the entire line. I also LOVE the cute way they are packaged up. Moda wraps them so sweetly with their twill tape…adorable. I now have a growing pile of twill tape at my house! So, in an effort to go green and reuse everything I have been thinking about what to do with this marvelous little bonus gift that we get every time we buy a layer cake or jelly roll. Well, here’s an easy little project for you. A lanyard to hold your scissors.
I never wore scissors around my neck until I started quilting and now, I don’t know what I would do without them there! I used to lose my scissors all the time! Not so much anymore…So, here’s what you do…first take the twill tape and measure off about 42 inches. That is just a standard length for a lanyard, you can make yours longer or shorter just make sure it fits over your head! š Then you will want to press it. and yes, Mary Ellens best press really does the trick…it eliminates wrinkles (and it smells so good!)
Next line up the ends, overlapping them one on top of the other. At this point you may want to fray check them or serge them to prevent fraying.
Now grab a key ring and fold your ends to the back. Then stitch and backstitch several times to make a secure seam and Viola! You’re done! Now just wind your scissors on and feel good knowing that 1)you wont lose your scissors anymore! and 2)you recycled today! Yay!
I was thinking that this twill tape would make great trim on grocery totes or adorable straps on a pillowcase sundress…anyone else have any great ideas? I would love to hear them!
Have a lovely day!
