Playground Quilt

Playground Quilt by the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

When Jenny Doan was a child, she lived in an idyllic little town called Spreckels, California.

In the center of town stood a park circled by a wide sidewalk, the perfect canvas for chalk artists to create all sorts of interesting scenes: Fields of poppies, snow-capped mountains, coral reefs filled with rainbow-hued fish.

How she wished to hop right in – Mary Poppins style – to explore those magical worlds!

This week, Jenny is working on a Playground quilt that is as charming as that small-town park. It’s a beautiful jelly roll + layer cake pattern made with easy flying geese, square in a square, and blocks with snowballed corners.

You may know this old-fashioned favorite as Swing in the Center. We’re using cute 30s prints to give it a vintage look. Follow Jenny’s tips for keeping your points razor-sharp—you’ll never lose another point!

The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s a place for family and friends to gather, chat about their day, laugh and spend some good old fashioned quality time together. A place where memories are made and never forgotten. Nobody wants to spend time in a drab, boring kitchen or an ultra modern one where you’re afraid to make a mess.  Ah, but what about a vintage kitchen? One filled with color and fun patterns everywhere. The energy is electric in a vintage kitchen, which makes it an excellent heart of the home! <3

Finding Inspiration: Fabric and style

Mom’s sewing corner in the Shop! Bright and happy. Look at those Vintage Aprons! I love all of it!

I mentioned a few days ago that I was going to start on a 30’s style quilt….  Well, my best laid plans were side stepped by 5 of the cutest kids you’ve ever seen (mine) and I STILL haven’t gotten to it!  I do have the fabric picked out and everything ready to go, so I have my fingers crossed that this is ‘the’ week it will start!

Hahah…please tell me you know what I mean?  I hate making plans and then having thing after thing get in my way!  UGH!

So, today I want to show you some inspiration that I have to get me in the mood for some retro sewing.

Vintage patterns make me so happy!  Oh my goodness, I just love the style of clothes!  What I wouldn’t give to be part of such an iconic era!  {at least for a few days.  I do like my smart phone and warm car}  Wow, look at that waist and all those fun  dresses.

Looking back is always more fun, isn’t it?

Here’s to today…to getting SOMETHING crossed off your list and making the best of it!

Have a fabulous day!

Sarah

Oh, I didn’t even mention that we got another 8 inches of snow on Monday, did I?  Haha, can you believe that!?  At least today will be in the 60’s and tomorrow in the 70’s!  Yay for some sun!!
