BUS Trip 2011 the aftermath…

Oh boy, was it a FUN weekend!  Our bus full of ladies (and one Aldo, *wink-wink)  left early (6:30am) I could hardly wait to get to the shop to meet everyone.  We had friends from the forums and friends from Florida and even some friends from Mexico City!

Everyone was so excited and happy, that it just added to all of the suspense that is ‘8 buses’!!  LOL

We really did just have the best time!  It was so fun to meet and visit with all of the people from the different Shops and areas.  We had a great time teasing and helping each other.  I am constantly impressed by ‘quilters’ in general.  They are a kind, fun, honest group of people.  Am I right?  I still haven’t met a quilter I didn’t like!

I’m not gonna lie…..We were EXHAUSTED by the end of Friday!  (thinking, we have to do this all over again!??!)  It was also oddly, energizing! (I loved it)  We had the crazy idea that each bus that left, we would go out and wave goodbye.  Well, we would get a little crazy- doing things like the ‘wave’ and jumping in the air.  It was one of my favorite things!  (I just hope we didn’t leave a bad impression)  Hahahah!

If you went on the trip….did you love it?

What was your favorite part?

Would you do it again?

Oh, and did you miss me?

LOL, back with more tomorrow!

Have a great day.  (I’m sending my oldest off to camp today. sniff-sniff)

Show and Tell

So did you just love that tutorial Natalie did on the T-shirt quilt!?!  She is an excellent teacher.   I am so excited that she did it though, because we have had a lot of interest in that technique!

*Remember if you make a quilt {especially one form a tutorial or a pattern we sell, send us a pic!  We LOVE to see what you are doing!!}

So, today I have some GREAT pictures of quilts from none other than YOU!  YOU guys and gals are the best customers/friends a girl could ask for and I’m just thrilled to see what you are all up to.  I have to ask, what is more fun than quilting?  Sharing-showing(off)-oohing-and ahhing over each others quilts/projects, thats what!!!

The first one I want to show you is the DP9 {aka- the dissapearing nine patch-tutorial here} from our friend Donna.

I just love how she used her stash and created a beautiful quilt!!

Next up Carol N. sent me two pictures to share with you!!  Both are gorgeous and amazing!

What a beautiful quilt, right! WOW, the colors are so fun.

Carol used the fabric line Vera’s garden {which we are out of, darn.} and used this tutorial here.

This next quilt she made using the Stars Aligned pattern (one of our FAVORITES!!!) and a Kansas Troubles-Butterfly Garden Jelly Roll. {which we are also out of, darn-it again}  Talk about ‘breath taking’ have a look….

Just stunning! I love it.

Wow, right!  I am just in love with it.  Carol says she added another row to make it a King Size quilt.  {she also used some thimble-berries from her stash for the borders.}

I just want to say a BIG GIANT thank you to you all.  Thanks for sending us the pictures and sharing your experiences, thanks for being loyal-amazing- customer-friends!  We really could’t do it without you all.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.  Stay safe, wherever you are.

I’m crossing my fingers that you get at least a few minutes {hours, really} to sew!

See ya Monday.  {I miss you already}

Let’s go fly a kite…

You know.  After a pretty awful week, the weekend turned out to be spectacular.  Really.  Having a plan, the beautiful weather and a picnic.  How much better could it be.

We have the best parks in our area, and because we are new, each one is an adventure.  We went on a ‘park-search’ and picked the first one we saw.  Granted, it was pretty small, even compared to the one right down our street, but it was perfect for us.  We put out our jean picnic blanket and ate our lunch.  *My youngest, who is 3 was really worried about Yogi Bear stealing our pic-a-nic basket.  {the kids had just watched that movie last week, LOL}  I had to assure him several times that I would protect the basket.

The weather was PERFECT kite flying weather and in no time all the kites were up in the air!  Yay! {I just bought the cheap plastic kites and they were great! Plus we lost two to the trees, so I was glad I hadn’t spent a fortune.}

I didn’t get any sewing done, but we did make it to two other parks.  There isn’t quite anything like a nice day in the sun.

It really was perfect.  Thank you all for encouraging me to just GO, and for all the sweet condolences.  The quilting community is just the best.  I am so glad to be a part of it.  Thanks.

Now, I am off to pack my bags for SALT LAKE CITY, baby!  Can you believe it is already that time?!?!  QUILT MARKET, here I come!  I am getting so excited! I have so many fun things planned out there.  I will try to snatch up some new fabric {from sample spree} and bring you back a little treat and we can have a giveaway right here on the blog!  Doesn’t that sound fun!?!?

I hope you all have had a fabulous weekend, a happy Mother’s Day and a great week ahead!

We’ll talk soon.

Sarah

Better late….

Not sure if that is really true or not.  Haha.  This week has been a little tough for my family.  My husband lost his Grandma and had to leave Tuesday for Canada.  I had to stay home with the kids {cause we haven’t gotten passports for the kids, yet. }  So I have been holding down the fort, so to speak.

I sure do miss my husband when he is gone.  Out here {where we just moved} I feel especially alone, because I really haven’t made a ton of friends and haven’t been here long enough to really know anyone.  I was so spoiled living amongst my family.  I had instant friends and if I ever needed anything, they were there.  What a brat, huh.  It has been an interesting adjustment for sure.

Well, I am planning on getting more work done on my ‘quilt in progress’, if I can get those tension issues resolved.  {still working on that…See, it would have been so easy if Mom was just down the road! Haha.}  🙂

I hope that you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend.  I am going to take my kids to the park for a picnic and kite flying (if we have enough wind) and just relax.  I’ll take pics and share them on Monday.  I still have a million and one things to get ready before i leave for Market….I’ll get to it.

Can’t wait to show you some of the awesome things we’ve been up to…

Show and Tell…Quilts made by YOU

Over a year ago I spoke with Carolyn on the phone.  I tried to help her make her first quilt with a few suggestions and such.  I received an email from her with pictures of the quilt she made and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with you!

Here is the email I received from her:

Hi Sarah,

As you can see from the date of your message to me (2/5/10), you helped me by answering some questions I had about making my first quilt!  I had bought some charm packs of California Dreamin’ from your store and wanted to make a quilt for my sister’s birthday.  You were kind enough to answer some of my questions over the phone, and then you sent me two pictures as suggestions of what I could do with the charm packs.

I am proud and excited to tell you that I finally finished the quilt!!  I really wanted to show you what I did.  (I think two of the pictures are sideways but I don’t know how to rotate them on here!)  I added a white border around the charm square and then alternated a pink or green border around that.  I also had bought material for the backing before I really knew what I was doing.  When it was time to do the back, I found out it was only 42″ wide and the quilt was 54″ wide.  So I had to make a border around the backing.

I also tried to stipple the quilt.  I had taken a class on free motion quilting, but hadn’t been practicing.  So, 30 minutes of stippling one section, ended up being 3 DAYS of ripping it out!!  I then went with the grid pattern.  I used 1″ painters tape and followed the line.  After about 5 rows of that, I thought 1″ was too small so I ripped THAT out and used the 1.5″ tape.  I used variegated quilting thread that matched the colors perfectly.  My other sister noticed that right away which made me happy!   I had no idea the quilting part would be so time consuming!

I made my own binding and followed your tutorial and that went fine.  I also made a label with my embroidery machine.  (I’m also new to that so it wasn’t the best!)

I presented it to my sister this weekend and she absolutely loved it!  It was only one year, one month and a few weeks passed her birthday!

So THANK YOU so much for all your help and guidance.  Your encouragement help give me courage to finish my very first quilt!!

Sincerely,

Carolyn

I can NOT even express how much it means to us, to hear back from you all.  The stories, successes and failures {which always turn out to be  successes too}  are what keeps us going.  We appreciate all of you.  You are the reason why we are doing what we are doing.

Have  a wonderful day.

~Sarah
