New Friday Tutorial: The Inside Out Quilt

Confession time! What sends shivers of fear down your spine? Ghosts and goblins? Things that go bump in the night? Handing the car keys to a 16-year-old for his first solo drive? Truth be told, I used to be afraid of applique. Too time consuming. Too exact. Too labor-intensive. Right? Wrong!!!

Today we’re sharing an applique method so quick and easy, you’ll be whipping through the Inside Out Quilt at lighting speed! These appliqued blocks are neatly finished with a teeny zig-zag stitch, and boy oh boy are they cute!

New Friday Tutorial: The Missouri Crossroads Quilt Tutorial

A crossroads is the meeting of four roads. It brings to mind some lovely deep thoughts about life choices and such, doesn’t it? (I’m a sucker for a good metaphor!) I can look back through the years and see how various decisions have changed the course of life forever: Who to marry. (Luckily, I chose well) What career to pursue. (When you love what you do, it never feels like work!) Whether to wash the laundry or spend the afternoon in the sewing room. (Always choose the sewing room!)

Today’s Missouri Crossroads Quilt is a gorgeous pattern made up of many small pieces (Don’t worry, they’re so, so quick to put together.) And just like all those little life decisions, they come together to create one beautiful whole.

New Friday Tutorial: The Simple Diamond Quilt

Do you have a favorite diamond? There sure are some pretty ones out there, and with names to match! “Amarillo Starlight” is a colorless 16.37 carat diamond that was found by a visitor in Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas in 1972. Over in Australia, “Argyle Pink Jubilee” weighs in at 8.01 carats. And let’s not forget “The 26th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.” (No joke! That’s the actual name of a 343-carat yellow diamond mined in Yakutia, Russia!)

As for me, I prefer the little sparkler that was presented to me by my sweetheart so many years ago, but this week’s Simple Diamond Quilt comes in at a close 2nd! The Simple Diamond Quilt is just what it sounds like. Basic, timeless, and absolutely beautiful!

A Peek Inside the Machine Shed

Welcome to the Machine Shed at Missouri Star Quilt Company! You guessed it, the Machine Shed is our shop full of sewing machines! It’s also home to lots of thread, templates and other quilting notions.

Doesn’t it have such a great feel to it? You’ll be able to find all the Sizzix™ Machines and dies and you can even test them out. They make cutting small shapes a breeze!

We carry 6 models of Baby Lock™ sewing machines, including the Katherine, S ofia2, Rachel, Molly, Jane and BL9. They can all be found and taken for a test drive in the Machine Shed. (Baby Lock™ sewing machines are available in store only.)
