Cut out your half hexagons, place them between two 10″ squares, sew around the squares, and VOILA! A fantastic half square triangle block with a perfect hexagon in the middle. Check out the full tutorial HERE.
Confession time! What sends shivers of fear down your spine? Ghosts and goblins? Things that go bump in the night? Handing the car keys to a 16-year-old for his first solo drive? Truth be told, I used to be afraid of applique. Too time consuming. Too exact. Too labor-intensive. Right? Wrong!!!
Today we’re sharing an applique method so quick and easy, you’ll be whipping through the Inside Out Quilt at lighting speed! These appliqued blocks are neatly finished with a teeny zig-zag stitch, and boy oh boy are they cute!

It’s time for a New Friday Tutorial (every Friday) and today Jenny has a visitor! This quilt was designed by Lisa Hirsch, member of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild, who won a little contest that got her quilt featured in ModBLOCK.
Lisa’s quilt is called Hexi Gems and it is so modern and beautiful! It features our half hexagon template and you can find all the supplies you need HERE.
Check out this diagram that includes the size of the finished quilt and everything you need! You can even use the layout as a reference to decide on your fabric contrast for the hexagon gems!

We have been spoiled by Shirley and her amazing work! I so appreciate that you all take the time to send me your pictures so we can all enjoy what you’ve been sewing! I really can’t think of anything more enjoyable than Show and tell!!
Just so you know, the kids all made it to school with very little trauma! (I was even able to hold off tears, if you can believe that!) It is strangely quiet at my house today, and I am hoping for some major productivity! I even plan on baking some cookies made for the kids! Hope you are all having a great week! I’m looking forward to the weekend, ready for anything!! 🙂
