Missouri Star Shop Feature: Batik Boutique

Batik Boutique at Missouri Star Quilt Co.

While it may be winter here in Hamilton, once you step into our Batik Boutique you will be transported to a tropical island filled with gorgeous hand-dyed fabrics!

Batik Boutique at Missouri Star Quilt Co

Batik fabric is created using a unique dyeing process in which wax is used to resist the dye. Where the wax is placed results in the design on the fabric, which can then be repeated to create even more intricate designs.

Considering that most batiks are manufactured in Indonesia, our shop was designed and decorated accordingly. From the blue stamped concrete, to the pebbled checkout counter and all of the island themed decor, no detail was left out!

Our Batiks shop has had quite the history! It was a bicycle shop near the turn of the 20th Century, until it was sold and converted into a barbershop, with a corner devoted to the town watchmaker and watchsmith. The shop then became a doctor’s office and later turned into a 2nd hand store before Missouri Star bought the building.

MSQC New Tutorial on the Blog!

Summer School Quilt

From rice-sized gobies to whale sharks as long as two school buses, the ocean is filled with an incredible variety of creatures.  Some travel in schools of up to 3 billion fish. Some “walk” on land. Some live for centuries.

But of all the fish in the sea, my very favorites are created with needle and thread. In this week’s new tutorial, Jenny demonstrates how to whip up a sea full of pretty fishes in every color of the rainbow. Click HERE to watch the tutorial!

The next time a British monarch takes the throne, keep your eyes peeled for St Edward’s Crown. This 12-inch-tall crown is made of almost 5 pounds of solid gold and 444 precious and semi-precious stones, and it’s been sitting on royal heads during every coronation since the 13th century. (In the market to purchase your own? Start saving now. This crown – along with the rest of the crown jewels –  is worth around 7 billion dollars!)

Emerald Isle Quilt

MSQC New Tutorial on the Blog!

A new HST quilt! Watch this tutorial.

It’s March, and I’ve got shamrocks and leprechauns on my mind. But when it comes to quilting projects, I like something that can be used throughout the year.

Today’s new quilt, Emerald Isle, is a fun choice for St Patrick’s Day with its rainbow-hued diamonds and vibrant green border. It is festive without being too “theme-y,” so you can use it in any season. Jenny from Missouri Star Quilt Co, teaches another great HST quilt.
