MSQC Featherweight Retreat

Do you remember back in the day when cars didn’t break down as often and everything was built to last? Those were the good ol’ days! The same goes for Featherweight sewing machines… They’re strong, good quality, lightweight and they get the job done right! That’s why so many people still use them, and we had a whole retreat themed around them! Some wonderful ladies and their Featherweight machines joined us for a fun time of sewing and demos in the beginning of August.

Aren’t these machines so retro and cute? While the ladies were here they were given a demo on the Quatrefoil Quilt (Click HERE to watch tutorial) along with several other tips and tricks from the wonderful Cindy! They also got to attend one of Jenny’s Trunk Shows!

Several retreaters took advantage of the Daily Deals during their stay with us, and made some beautiful quilts from it while here! Check out these two quilts that were made using the Bandana and Florals Charm Pack by Dover Hill for Benartex, although the fabric is the same, the two quilts turned out so different and spunky, each as beautiful as the other! The one pictured on the left is the Bordered Periwinkle Quilt using the Wacky Web template while the one pictured on the right is a Charm Big Star Quilt that Tina Jennings made. They’re both so cute!

Kona Days in Hamilton, MO Recap

In mid April we hosted a wonderful event here in Hamilton!  Robert Kaufman Fabrics was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their Kona Cotton solids fabric line, so they selected 30 amazing quilters and invited them each to create an original quilt using Kona Cotton fabric.  For more information on the history of Kona and a complete list of quilters contributed, Robert Kaufman created a fantastic Lookbook, which you can find here

Kona Cotton Lookbook: 30 Quilts for 30 Years

There were so many quilts that they filled our Sewing Center as well as a couple of our shops!  They are just gorgeous and we loved having them here!  This photo shows just some of the quilts that were in our Sewing Center, where we host frequent quilting retreats!

This quilt by Shea Henderson is gorgeous!  We love the colors and it’s such a fun, memorable pattern!

The detail and color of each quilt was so impressive and mesmerizing!

Along with these incredibly meticulous and artful quilts, we had a few great events to add to the fun!  Our very own Jenny Doan was signing copies of Block Magazine and gave one of her fabulous trunk shows!

We also had book signings with Shea Henderson for her new book, School of Sewing, as well as with Angela and Cloe Walters for their new book, Get Quilting with Angela & Cloe.

We had a super fun Cars & Quilts event that weekend, where people brought in their vintage cars and lined them up all along downtown Hamilton, then went inside to view the 30 Quilts from Kona!  There was nowhere to park in town!

We love to look for opportunities to serve those in need, so during Kona Days we created kits for people to come in and sew pillowcases to be donated to a local women’s shelter.  We also were accepting food donations to the local food pantry!  Peanut butter and jelly are a treat for those receiving assistance from the food pantry, so we asked for those specific items when attending Jenny’s trunk show and got an amazing response!

We had a blast and can’t wait for our next big event in Hamilton!!  Thank you to everyone who attended, participated and donated!!!

Batik Boutique in Hamilton!

Exciting things are happening here in Hamilton!  It’s starting to look and feel like spring, the sun is shining (most of the time) and Downtown Hamilton is looking better than ever!  Recently, our new quilt shop opened, called the Batik Boutique.   That’s right, we’ve filled an entire shop with beautiful batiks!!

Batik is a special dying process for fabrics, where wax is used to resist the dye, creating a beautiful pattern and texture.  We’ve found that when a customer loves batiks, she really LOVES batiks.  So, now you’ve got one special spot to be surrounded by all of your favorite batiks!

Here’s a little tour of our Batik Boutique!

Gorgeous, rich colors with tons of dimension and beautiful prints!

Our shelves are almost filled up!  We’re getting new fabrics every day!

batiks 5

Look at how rich and beautiful this batik chevron quilt is!  Wow, we love those deep navy fabrics!  It has so much depth and movement, which is definitely an advantage to working with batiks.

Batiks can be so fun when they are paired with a black solid fabric!

It’s amazing what can be done with this batik technique!  Look at these patriotic prints that add yet another layer of interest to these fabrics!

Of course, we also have some fantastic precuts of your favorite Batik fabrics!

batiks 2

I especially love batiks that are bright and cheery like these ones!  We have every color of the rainbow!  This is a great way to add a little extra dimension and interest to your quilt instead of using a solid fabric.

Browse our entire collection of batik fabrics!  On your next visit to Hamilton, we hope you’ll stop in to the Batik Boutique and say hello!

Blue Sage Grand Opening!

We couldn’t be more excited to introduce you all to our new friend in Hamilton, Chef Chad Rigby.

Chad and his team have been working hard for many months to make Hamilton’s newest restaurant, Blue Sage, a reality. Blue Sage is getting ready for their grand opening weekend, September 26th and 27th!

Chef Chad Rigby - Blue Sage

Chef Chad Rigby has had a passion for food his whole life and has been fortunate enough to work in this fast growing industry for the past 15 years. Before moving to Missouri to be executive chef at Blue Sage, Chad worked as an executive Sous Chef in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here’s what Chad has to say about Blue Sage:

“Blue Sage is the perfect date night or relaxed dining experience. I want people to be able to come experience cuisine that is familiar but made with a Blue Sage twist. Food, done right, should be an adventure!”

Well said, Chad!

There’s never been anything like Blue Sage in Hamilton. Just take a look at this amazing interior! We couldn’t be more thrilled.
