New Friday Tutorial: The Jenny’s Tents Quilt

MSQC New Tutorial on the Blog!

One of my favorite things about quilting is how many simple, basic quilt blocks you can put together to create a completely awe inspiring design that is completely unique and your own. Even just changing the fabrics can transform a simple half square triangle quilt into a masterpiece! This tutorial is no exception. What looks like an intricate design is just a HST block snowballed on one side! Isn’t it beautiful? You can make it too!

It kind of looks like a scrappy chevron, doesn’t it? It’s just so cute! What fabric will you use to make your own version?

Jenny Doan and Crafty Gemini Retreats // 2015

jenny and vanessa web

This past couple of weeks, we had a special visitor in Hamilton at MSQC! Vanessa Vargas Wilson, the Crafty Gemini, was here for two back to back Jenny Doan/Crafty Gemini quilting retreats and these gals seriously had a blast!

jenny disappearing class

There’s always plenty of time for sewing and shopping when you’re here for a retreat, but this one was packed full of some fantastic classes as well! Jenny taught the retreaters how to make various disappearing blocks and then showed them how to turn them into a tablerunner. 🙂

These gals are sisters who all love to sew and quilt! They came with their own matching t-shirts and even their own catch phrases! It was so fun to meet them!

Vanessa taught a class on how to make this adorabe ‘Any Which Way’ quilt using paper piecing!

Jenny even tried this one out because she wanted to improve her paper piecing skills! Those arrows are looking good, Jenny! 🙂

Vanessa did something that was so fun! She brought a Polaroid camera and took a special photo with each of the retreaters and signed it for them! What a fun little souvenir to take home! 🙂

We hope you had a wonderful time, retreaters!

Of course, Jenny painted the Missouri Star Quilt Block! Does’t it look great on the side of her house? 🙂

We loved this Bear Paw barn quilt block that Jan Heddinger from Des Moines made!

Jenny did one of her amazing trunk shows for the retreaters and focused on ways these shop owners can teach some great tricks and tips to their own local shop customers. It was such a fun night!

We love this small town of Hamilton and all that it has to offer! There’s so much history and there are so many local businesses who have so much to offer! So, we are excited to introduce a new blog series, Local Business Spotlight, where we will feature a local business and share some great information and photos to give you a better taste of what to do in Hamilton and places you might like to check out when you visit!

Tammy’s Flowers is one of several local businesses here in Hamilton, and it’s got so many characteristics and unique retail items to offer! Meet Tammy Gentry, owner and founder of Tammy’s Flowers! Tammy Started the business in August of 1994, a mere 21 years ago and it’s still going strong. Much has changed from the beginning, but the store has stayed true to it’s roots!

What started out as a small flower shop quickly grew to include more retail items! It’s now a “full service” flower shop offering plants, balloons, giftware and delivery. When customers started expressing to Tammy that they would like more of their wedding needs to be met in one place locally, she started offering tuxedo rental and wedding invitations as well. If you walk into Tammy’s Flowers you will be in awe of the beautiful home decor, soaps, local foods, candles, memory stones and of course florals to choose from! Best of all, Tammy tries to by as many locally made items as possible to put in her store!
