Prayer Flag Jelly Roll Project – Quick and Easy

Welcome to the “Let the good times [JELLY] Roll!” – our three day Jelly Roll extravaganza!  Starting today through Friday we have awesome deals on Jelly Rolls!  Each one will be OVER 50% off!

We have a few cool ideas to go along with our deals for you over the next few days!!  We hope you like them!

First up, I have been excited about playing with my Prayer Flag Jelly Roll from Moda Fabrics. I have tried a few different combinations, but my favorite came in using this super easy tube quilting technique. To do this, all I needed was the following:

1 Prayer Flag Jelly Roll

1 Natural Jelly Roll

Border fabric

We can handle this right?!!  I just sewed everything into tubes and went to it with the rotary cutter.

It went together in an afternoon, it was so quick, so easy, and came out great (I think! 🙂 ) I haven’t had time to quilt it yet, but I wanted to share it with you.  What do you think?

Also, today only, we have the Prayer Flag Jelly Roll on the Quilter’s Daily Deal for $16.95 That is an amazing price, so grab one!!

Dresden Quilt…Projects by YOU

Today I am thrilled to show off an amazing quilt made by Karen.  She lives in the UK and found our tutorials on Youtube, and wanted to show off her creation!

Don’t you just love the placement of the Dresden plates?

This is what Karen had to say about it:

“The quilt is my own, I made it up as I went along.

The quilt measures 71″ x 68″. As I stated before I used 4 charm packs, then added muslin for the background for the Dresden plates to be sewn onto. Each piece measures 21.5″ x 51″ unfinished. I then framed each piece with the rest of the charm squares. Then I added a flange which was a 1″ piece of fabric folded in half and sew round the outer edge before sewing a 6.5″ border (unfinished) on.

I also trapunto each plate by placing an extra piece of wadding underneath. The whole quilt was then handed quilted and a curved edge added to the corners before binding.”

Thanks so much for sharing your quilt with us Karen.  I just love the way it was laid out and put together!!  Beautiful!

Have a wonderful day!  It is Friday after all!  What are your plans for the weekend?  Are you gonna do anything ‘romantic’ for the Holiday on Monday!?

My kids are out of school again today, and I think we will make treats and Valentines to share with our friends.

Update on the Easy Pinwheels

If you haven’t seen the super easy pinwheel check it out –

But there are some questions that arise when you are doing more than the standard charm pack. So we went to our users and they came up with some great info to work with. Try the following –

Here is what have discovered…Cut your squares of fabric:

3 3/8” = 4” Block

4 1/2” = 5” block

5 1/8” = 6” block

5 7/8” = 7” block

6 5/8” = 8” block

7 2/8” = 9” block

8” = 10” block

8 5/8” = 11” block

9 3/8” = 12” block

Now here is the formula, it blew my mind but thank goodness for calculators!

Finished block size x 1.41 = finished diagonal

Divide the answer, the finished diagonal, by 2. Add 0.875″ and round up to the nearest 1/8″ to find your parent block size.

There, aren’t you glad I just gave you the measurements?

Pretty cool eh’!! Just to be sure, I did make the 4”, 5”, 6” and 7” blocks with those measurements and they were spot on. I hope this helps you all! Let me know how it works for you.

Hideaway…our theme for last week!

Wow!  We had quite the snow storm this last week!  I know, I know you’ve all heard about it already, but really.  I have never seen that much snow from one storm all at once before!  I also have to say that I LOVED that it snowed ALL day on Tuesday!  I hate (ok, not really hate) waking up to giant amounts of snow.   I just really like being able to see it fall, and enjoy it’s beauty.

The kids have basically had another vacation.  I’m not sure if we’ve had a full week of school since Christmas!  (obviously my brain is mush, and my weeks are running together, lol)  So, this week was full of sledding, movie watching and playing with toys.    My kids have another day off Friday (teacher work day) this week, and I think they are getting a bit spoiled by it all.

I got to play with some fabric, and that has been fun.  I used a Hideaway Layer cake, and am almost done with the top.  I really just have to pick a border and then have it quilted!!  I’ll post about the whole thing later this week, with some directions!  I know you all  love a good tutorial!  🙂

Do you see that cute yellow flower?!!?  That is a new camera bag I got!!  Oh my cuteness!  I love it!  The best part of it is that it fits BOTH my cameras!  That bag is a monster!  (a really, cute and happy monster!)

Anyway, I am crossing my fingers for a more productive week…full of meetings and deadlines (and meeting the deadlines)  hahahah.

I did get to order a whole bunch of new fabric on Friday night! Oh my goodness!  You are gonna love the new Christmas stuff Moda has coming out!  I can hardly wait to show you!

Have a wonderful-happy Monday!

Sarah

P.S.  Thanks so much for all the LOVE on our Moda Bakeshop debut!  It really was a pleasure to be a part of.
