Mini Quilts!

I have recently joined a few of the mini quilt swaps that are going on around the internet. It has been really fun to make mini quilts. Its totally new to me as I have always made larger quilts, or table runners. But, mini quilts are so small that you can really be creative and try out all kinds of new things. You can do things that seemed hard or too time consuming. I have experimented with embroidery, new blocks (Dresden plate!), free motion quilting, and using scraps in a creative way.  It is something I highly recommend! So, enjoy these pics of a few of my mini quilts!

My first Mini Quilt. I adapted a pattern for a pillow from a magazine! Its made with Anna Maria Horner’s Good Folks Fabric and measures 13 X 20. I did some free motion quilting on the squares then finished off the bottom of the quilt with an all over pattern called “just roses”. I love this one!

This was my first attempt at a Dresden plate! Of course, I used the nifty Dresden plate ruler! It is made using a Tranquility Charm pack and some solid yardage from my stash. It is quilted in an allover pattern we have here at the shop called “flower”. It measures approx. 25 X 20

This is my most recent mini quilt! It was made for Doll Quilt Swap 7. (Such a great swap group!) I used Riley Blake Fabric and after sewing a large four patch for my background, I appliqued the rings in a large circle using a blanket stitch. It is machine quilted using an allover pattern called “jills bubbles” It is adorable! It measures 24 X 25.

Making mini quilts is so  much fun…and you can try all kinds of quilting challenges out on a small scale! So, get brave and try something new! Then show us a pic in our forums!

Happy Quilting!

Circles are your friend….

For real!  Could this be any cuter?  Stripey-strip circles just might be my new favorite thing.   I know, I know.  I sound like an obnoxious adolescent that exclaims every song on the radio her favorite. (hey I can say that…I have one!)  🙂  I just get so excited about all the possibilities these pre-cuts give me!!  The convenience alone is enough to win me over! (See the original full tutorial after the jump)

Think of all the scraps you could use.   ( we all have them.  just admit it.)  We are considering starting a “Quilters Anonymous” for all of us fabric hoarders.   Hahaha!!  🙂  Who wants to be President?

Okay, seriously.  I want to mention a few things….Did you see us featured on the MODA BAKESHOP!??!?!  (not. even. kidding!)   We were thrilled.  (okay, okay….maybe more like ‘over the moon’-screaming-jumping up and down-excited) no, really.  You should have seen us.  🙂

Thank you Moda, for that.  We love your fabric and can’t get enough of the pre cuts!

If you haven’t already WHAT are you waiting for!??!?!!?  TRY a Jelly Roll, you won’t regret it!  {i pinkie swear}

Don’t forget to enter the  two giveaways we have going on right now….one in the forums (easy as ever to enter.  just leave a comment) and the Jelly roll one as well.   Only a few days left to enter!

Tube Quilting Technique!

So this is an AMAZING, fun and fast way to make a block, that has the look of a “string quilt” block or  an hourglass block.   The cool thing about this idea is that you are able to either make it very matchy-matchy or you have the freedom to make it very random and scrappy.  Their are also a lot of other ways to put it together, and you achieve a totally different look however you choose to lay it out!

All kinds of ideas are mulling around in my head of what else is possible with this technique.   Jelly Rolls make this so easy, too!  (I already have plans to piece one with honey bun strips.)  I can’t wait to show you!  I swear, once you try it you will be SO hooked.

Here is the ‘Main’ tutorial for the technique…..Oh man, you are gonna love it.

Thursday Already!??!

Am I the only one or has this summer week just flown by!?  I can hardly believe that it’s Thursday.  Which means ONE thing around here….that it’s almost Friday, which means Fabric Free For All, (in the forums) which means I have to get my act together.  Which is easier said than done, for me. Haha.

Whew!  Now, if you are still with me after all that, you win.  (just kidding)  But seriously if you haven’t gotten over there yet, DO…  I mean, who doesn’t want to win free fabric??  (no brainer, right)  It is so easy.  Remember, up for grabs is Riley Blake, Be Merry fat quarters!

Look at those reindeer! Aren’t they the cutest things ever!?

It turned out so darling, and went together in a SNAP!  I think it would make a perfect gift.

I almost forgot to mention…..there is a rumor going on around here that we will be having something for FREE on the Daily Deal. Shhhhh,  Don’t mention that you heard it here….(I wouldn’t want to get in trouble.)

I would just suggest you keep a look out.

Just saying.

Art…

pinkbike

I have been a fan of Vol.25 now for a while.  I love her artwork…I love that she combines art with words.  When she came out with this latest print, I knew I just had to have it!  So cute, and fits so perfectly in my life right now.

Continually moving is what I am doing…..my fingers are crossed that my theoretical bicycle is as cute as that one!!  🙂

So, what is keeping you moving these days?  What’s inspiring you?  What have you been doing all summer?  I’d love to hear.  Visit us in the Forums for a good ol’ chat!
