Stars and Strips! And yummy Tonga Treats!

Stars and Strips! And yummy Tonga Treats!

I know!  Isn’t this just darling!?  If quilts could talk, this one is saying “Hey, I’m summer and bright and happy! What are you?”  {ok, does that make me a little crazy?  Actually writing up a conversation a quilt would have. I know it sounds strange, but my quilts really do talk .}

I LOVE this line of fabric (Lollipop) we got from Timeless Treasure!  It is called a Tonga treat.  {same exact cut as a jelly roll. 2 1/2 inch strips. It’s just not pinked.}  Anyway, the batiks that Timeless Treasures put out are fabulous!  I love them.  I could ‘pet’ them all day and not get tired of it. Ha-ha!  {I know a few of you out there know what I mean!!}   We have two different color-ways (with more coming in) and it’s like my children….I just can’t pick a favorite!  See them here and you’ll know what I’m talking about!

For this specific quilt we used a pattern from  Atkinson Designs {love her patterns} called ‘Stars and Strips’!  The pattern was great and the quilt went together fast!

Doesn’t it just look darling in the Shop!?!?  Come on in and see it for yourself!  And if you can’t make it in, just think of this post as your own little show and tell!  :)

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  Make Monday the best and get some quilting done!

See you soon, Sarah

I love this border! I’ve become fascinated with using the border as an important focal point. However, triangles terrify me and I haven’t taken a class on them! So, I’m staying away from patterns with triangles until I can get more adept.

I love the stars and strips pattern. I’ve made a few batik baby quilts with it now, which have been well received by the recipients :-)  Atkinson designs are so easy to follow, complete dream patterns!

  • Grymma

The first time I did triangles I did so with this pattern – the instructions are clear and it’s really easy, I promise! Now I’m making pinwheels and all sorts, with confidence :-)

Wish I could just “stop in”; living close to your shop would be such fun.  I love the design of this quilt and LOVE the colors – they are so bright and cheery.

I use to be so leary of patterns with triangles, love them now. Get on line and take the tutorial, they are really quite easy. Finished a quilt not long ago with about 650 1/2 triangles, turned out great. Hey, have fun, take a chance.

LOVELY, I am going to go and cut and make a mini version with 5 blocks and the strip border right now…. need a hand made gift to take to a friend in Italy in September…this looks just right for a 5 decade friendship gift.

How many treat strip packs does this pattern take?  I absolutely love it!

  • Shayzie

Love, love, love the Tonga treats lollipop.  Found another pattern I’m working on.  Now I’m gonna get this stars and strips pattern.  I too am scared of triangles but as Grymma writes, I gonna go for it. In fact any pattern with lollipop I’ll make when more patterns are available.  Thanks for sharing

I LOVE this quilt! And I have to say I understand petting the fabric and conversing with the quilts but, hey, There are nuts in my family but we spell Nutts with 2 t’s

I thought this pattern looked familiar. I puchased the pattern and now I have purchased the fabric. Should I prewash the fabric before I sew. Ihaven’t worked on batiks and don’t if the color will bleed.

No, don’t wash your fabric.  It will be fine!
    Have a great day!
