This building has some great history! Most recently it was a hardware store. Many many years ago, it was a JC Penney store, owned by JCP himself! It was his 500th store. How cool is that?

Did you know that Hamilton is the birthplace of JCP? True story! That’s a Visitor’s Guide post for another day.

Back to the fabric!

Penney’s Quilt Shop houses solids, minky fabrics and basics that don’t go out of print. A recent visitor from Kansas City said it was “like walking into a life sized crayon box.” We loved hearing that! Want a tour?

Along this wall, you’ll see all of our Robert Kaufman Kona solids.

We have just about every color and will very soon have them all! That sign was used for a traveling play about the life of JC Penney. A local Hamilton resident had it in storage and offered it to us. We LOVE how it looks and love that it is hanging in what used to be a JCP store! So cool!

There are solids precuts in bright and cheery bundles.

At the back of the shop, you’ll see our Shannon Cuddle fabrics. We’ve got every color, too!

And we’ve got RJR Cotton Supremes and Free Spirit Designer Solids, too. More bolts of these arrive every day, so look for them to grow and grow!

Our Stonehenge section is also growing! It now includes hundreds of different prints!

Penney’s Quilt Shop is located across the street and down a block from the main shop, at 215 N Davis Street. It’s open Monday- Saturday 9am-5pm, just like the main shop, Sew Seasonal and the Mercantile. Phew! That’s four shops! Did you know a 5th one is undergoing restoration right now? For batiks! Should be open this summer! If you’re visiting any time soon, check out all of the posts in our Visitor’s Guide series. We want to make your visit a great one!

  • Janie

You are having so much fun! Is that legal? Brilliant organizing.

  • ksirishscrapper

My husband and I drove up to Hamilton from suburban KC last week. We loved the Penney’s shop, as well as all the others! We also stopped by Poppy’s and had a delicious snack. I visited last year and I am amazed by all the changes in Hamilton. You are doing such wonderful things for that small town. And you got me hooked on quilting! Keep up the great work!

  • Lisa Lien

  • KathyinMN

Note to self: now need more money and a U-haul for trip to Hamilton.

  • Kimberly Maynard

Do you remember that old game show … where you got a shopping cart and you had only a few minutes to run through the grocery store … and if you had a certain amount of groceries in your cart .. you got to keep them …. I want to do that here … Jenny get me a cart .. and a stop watch … it is time to come play in Hamilton !!!!!

  • Kim in SD

This store is like heaven to a quilter like me! Love all of the Kona & Bella solids!

  • Joy Wingfield

This has probably been said….I think Jenny wins! Surely she has the most fabric! I hope to get to Hamilton someday. It’s so great to see what Missouri Star Quilts is doing for the town and for quilting. I’ve been away from quilting for about 12 years and starting to get back to it. Love seeing Jenny’s tutorials and new techniques.

  • Cindy in MN

  • mortonkarena

    It’s like fabric Disneyworld!
Maybe you could have golf carts, shuttling customers from store to store, to match prints and solids, etc. and snowmobiles in winter!
    I love it!

  • mclady

It will be fun, I’m coming on the party buss too

  • Kim Jones

Will Hamilton be the NEXT Paducah??????
    I wonder! 😉

  • Lilly in Eagan

KathyinMN and Cindy in Mn – we should rent a bus and go down together- then we’d have enough room for our haul on the way back! (But let’s wait til the Batiks store is open ). – Lilly in Eagan

  • Janet

Another awesome quilt shop, the fabric looks great.

  • JA Reil

Jenny, no matter how big the company gets, stay “small” and “homey.” The personal service, down home charm and quaint buildings will keep them coming. I have enjoyed every visit and will continue to come. Enjoyed meeting the family at this last retreat.

  • JenniferMSQC

  • Lin

I’ve said this before…..When are you going to open a shop in the UK? If I lived on the other side of the pond I would be at Hamilton at least once a month. There is nothing like Hamilton in the UK.

  • Donna Fecteau

Hamilton is now on my list of places to visit when I retire.

  • JoAnn Harvey

Awhile back I discovered Jenny’s videos, and they made me more excited to sew than ever before. Jenny has opened up so much creativity in my sewing. I always thought quilting was beyond my skill level, but I was wrong, thanks to the videos I have learned so many new skills. I watched the video about how MSQC came to be, and I think it is just wonderful how you have all had such great success. I check out the daily deal every single day, and I look forward to every new tutorial. Thank you for all your help in making me a better sewer.
